Springbank 21 Years Old (46% - 70cl)

The Springbank 21 Years Old is an iconic whisky for two reasons. First, Springbank is one of the very few distilleries that performs every step of whisky production in-house: malting the barley, distilling, maturing, and bottling. Second, each release of this whisky has been celebrated by connoisseurs worldwide.

The story of the Springbank 21 Years Old dates back to the 1980s when the distillery, despite being closed (from 1979 to 1989), released a few of these special whiskies sporadically. Regular bottling resumed in 1995, with the original label featuring a serrated design (including a rare 37.5cl version). In 1998, another release featured vertical stripes, initially thought to come from a private Springbank cask. A further release followed in 2005 with the same striped label but marked as "one of 2400." However, by 2005, the distillery's reserves were nearly depleted, and no more 21-year-olds were produced.

Today, the distillery’s stocks have been restored, and the Springbank 21 Years Old fully captures the fantastic style of the 1980s and 1990s. The 2024 release has been aged for 21 years in a mix of casks: 65% ex-Port wine, 25% ex-bourbon, 5% ex-sherry, and 5% ex-rum. It is bottled without added coloring or chill filtration, at 46% ABV.
