About Us
August 15, 2004—Two brothers from Rome traveling through Ireland stumble, almost by chance, upon a distillery with a capital “H” in its History: the Jameson Distillery. And voilà, a great and unexpected passion was born within them—the very one that probably led you to read these lines.
Those two brothers are us, the founders of Whisky Italy, Diego and Igor, and the passion that defines us is, of course, for whisky or whiskey.
What sparked this passion? Perhaps it was the awe and wonder at the traditional methods we saw for the first time in producing this distilled spirit, or maybe it was the allure of its history or the aroma of the most natural ingredients.
The fact is, the following year, we embarked on another journey, this time to Scotland, with no doubt that it would be dedicated to discovering its famous distilleries.
But it was upon our return to Italy that we realized we still had many questions to answer and countless curiosities to satisfy.
Thus began a period of study, often squeezed into the margins of time or at the end of exhausting workdays. But that wasn't enough, so we also dedicated a lot of energy to tastings, more specialized trips, and for years we didn’t miss a single industry fair.
In the end, single malts, bourbons, blended whiskies, and moonshine held no more secrets from us, but it was hard work—too hard. And then, was it possible that purchasing whisky could be even more complex? There wasn’t a single blog in Italy that went beyond the description of the tasting notes of some spirits or aging information, let alone a portal where you could discover everything, for example, about Irish or Japanese whiskey or simply begin to explore this extraordinary spirit.
So, we combined our passion, experience, and desire to create a virtual space with a soul—one that would truly provide information and curiosities about whisky. We also mustered a good dose of courage and entrepreneurial spirit.
That’s how Whisky Italy was born, with the goal of making the world of whisky and its secrets accessible to everyone, promoting knowledge and conscious consumption.
For us, it’s far more than just a portal; it’s a second home where we hope everyone who arrives, like you, can feel welcomed and want to return, even if just to discover the next curiosity and immerse themselves, if only for a moment, in the fascinating universe of this spirit, rich in tradition and poetry.
