Brands:

Scapa Distillery is located in the Scottish Orkney archipelago, near the town of Kirkwall on the main island. It is one of Scotland’s northernmost distilleries. Founded in 1885 by Macfarlane & Townsend, Scapa has gone through various phases of closure and reopening. After a long period of inactivity, the distillery was restarted in 2004 by Chivas Brothers (part of the Pernod Ricard group), reviving production with modern equipment while preserving traditional craftsmanship, such as its exceptionally long 160-hour fermentation process.

The Scapa 10 Years Old is a single malt Scotch whisky, aged for at least 10 years in American oak ex-bourbon casks before being bottled at 48% ABV, non-chill filtered, and with no added color.

Color: Pale gold.

Aroma: The nose opens with a complex and inviting bouquet—sweet notes of caramel and rich vanilla blend with hints of toffee, spices, yeast, and a touch of salinity reminiscent of sea breeze, alongside light tropical fruit accents.

Taste: On the palate, the whisky is incredibly sweet and enveloping, with a creamy texture reminiscent of rich custard. The initial flavors include caramel, chocolate, and tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, enhanced by fresh notes of peach and apricot. This evolves into citrus tones, where tangy lime merges with a subtle touch of toasted wood.

Finish: Though short, it leaves a pleasant savory persistence. As the sweet and fruity notes fade, delicate hints of woody spices and slight astringency emerge, enriched by a touch of caramel and white bread. A warming peppery sensation, accompanied by a subtle saline note evocative of the sea, provides a well-balanced conclusion.
