The 2.81 distillation process, created by Alexander Cowie nearly 200 years ago, remains unchanged to this day. Known by all as "The Way," only he understood why each of the six stills has a unique shape and why the copper pipes are intricately twisted to cut and redistill the spirit. Unfortunately, the distillery is not open to the public, as just a visit to the still room alone would make the trip worthwhile!
The Mortlach 15 Years Old is a single malt Scotch whisky distilled in 2005 and aged for 12 years in an ex-bourbon oak cask and an additional 3 years in a Pedro Ximénez ex-sherry cask. This whisky was finally bottled at a natural cask strength of 52.8% ABV, non-chill filtered, and at its natural color, with only 202 bottles available.
