While the folks at That Boutique-y Whiskey Company were busy assembling their USA series, a sample of this extraordinary Dutch rye whisky from the Millstone distillery landed on their doorstep. Well, it turned out to be so special that they simply had to find a way to include it in the collection.
The Millstone 9 Years Old is a rye whiskey made from a 50/50 blend of malted and unmalted rye, with an 8-9 day fermentation and a slow, low distillation with a very narrow cut point (between 68-70%). It was aged for 9 years in a new American oak barrel, toasted and charred (Char #3), before being bottled at cask strength (53.1% ABV), non-chill filtered, and at its natural color, with only 319 bottles available.
Label: Distiller Patrick van Zuidam is the Designated Hitter on the label, which, as you can see, has been torn in half by the card checker, marking it as "fake" within the USA series collection. After all, our Patrick is holding a Dutch "kolven" stick, used in a Netherlands game similar to golf...
