Lochlea was founded in 2015 by Neil McGeoch under the name Lochlea Distilling Co. Located in the rural Ayrshire countryside, south of Kilmarnock, McGeoch transformed Lochlea Farm, originally dedicated to cattle farming, into a barley-growing estate for whisky production. Independently owned and family-run, the distillery has an annual production capacity of 200,000 liters. Their first whisky, Lochlea First Release, was launched in early 2022.
The Lochlea 5 Years Old is the distillery’s first single malt Scotch whisky with an age statement. This whisky is composed of 5 carefully selected casks: 2 first-fill ex-bourbon casks from the first distillation, a first-fill ex-Oloroso sherry cask, a double maturation ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry cask (3 years in bourbon, 2 in Oloroso), and a double maturation ex-bourbon and ex-PX sherry cask (18 months in fresh Pedro Ximénez sherry). These casks were married together, resulting in 2,000 bottles at 50% ABV, presented at natural color and non-chill filtered.
