Founded in 2010, Kings County was the first distillery to open in New York City after Prohibition. The production is highly artisanal, and all stages of production take place in the Paymaster building, which dates back 123 years, in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
The Kings County 2 Years Old is a Bourbon whiskey made with a mashbill consisting of 80% corn and 20% malted and peated Scottish barley (peat from the Highlands). The open-air fermentation allows wild yeasts to act on the wash, while distillation takes place with two copper pot stills, one from Forsyth (Scotland) and one from Kentucky. This whiskey was aged for at least 2 years in new charred American oak barrels before being bottled at barrel proof 61.9% ABV, without chill filtration and in its natural color, with only 303 bottles total.
Label: In the role of Center Field (CF), we find Colin Spoelman, with two pot stills embroidered on his shirt, running on a white ribbon. This references the whiskey wars that left Brooklyn in ruins in 1869.

Color: Light amber.
Aroma: We may have been influenced by the birthplace of this bourbon, but the first thing that comes to mind on the nose is salted pretzel, followed by caramel, apple, crème brûlée, and a subtle hint of smoke and grilled corn.
Taste: On the palate, it’s meaty with notes of malt, new leather, salt, then a touch of oak and salted caramel.
Finish: Medium persistence, with notes of black pepper, leather, salted caramel, and a light whiff of smoke.
