The Glengyle distillery is located in the town of Campbeltown, on the Kintyre peninsula, and is owned by the Mitchell family, the same as Springbank. The new distillery was built in 2004, although historically the first Glengyle distillery was constructed near the current one in 1872 by William Mitchell, son of the old founder of Springbank. The original distillery remained in operation until 1925, when it was closed and the stock sold at auction. Today, Glengyle has returned to its former glory, and its production is highly regarded by experts and enthusiasts.
The Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch #9 is the ninth release of a heavily peated single malt from Glengyle. For this release, which has no age statement, the distillery has achieved a peat level of around 80ppm! This whisky was aged in a mix of ex-bourbon casks (90%) and ex-sherry casks (10%) and bottled at full strength (59.2% ABV) without chill filtration and with no added coloring.
Note: Purchase is limited to two bottles per customer.

Aroma: The nose greets us with peat smoke accompanied by notes of sea salt and brine, followed by honey and hints of orange zest, baked apple, and salted caramel.
Palate: Slightly spicy and decidedly lively on the palate, the peat smoke is very present with notes of dried fruit, citrus, wax, olives, and a slight metallic touch.
Finish: Good persistence with notes of embers, dried fruit, a light smokiness, and tropical fruit like mango and banana, along with hints of toasted bread and brined olives.
