The Kilkerran brand hails from Campbeltown’s Glengyle Distillery, founded in 1872 by William Mitchell, son of Archibald Mitchell, who established the nearby Springbank Distillery. Despite early success, Glengyle faced challenges and was permanently closed in 1925. Fast forward to November 2000, when Mitchell Glengyle Limited, led by Hedley Wright (Springbank) and great-great-nephew of William Mitchell, purchased the distillery’s old buildings. Thus, Glengyle returned to the family that originally founded it. The first spirit of the revitalized distillery flowed from the stills on March 7, 2004—exactly 16 years ago.
The Kilkerran 16 Years Old is a single malt Scotch whisky aged for at least 16 years in a mix of casks: 70% ex-bourbon, 20% ex-sherry, and 10% ex-rum. Bottled at a classic 46% ABV, it is presented without added coloring or chill filtration.
To minimize its environmental impact, the bottle comes without a cardboard box.
