The Kentucky Owl Takumi Edition is a limited-edition release from 2022 by Kentucky Owl, born from an extraordinary collaboration between John Rhea and Yahisa Yusuke, the Master Blender of Japan’s Nagahama Distillery. This meeting of distinct traditions resulted in a unique bourbon that combines Kentucky’s bold character with the elegance and refinement of Japanese whisky. The term "Takumi," meaning "Master" in Japanese, perfectly embodies the philosophy behind this creation.
To craft the Takumi Edition, John Rhea selected four different bourbon mash bills, each with distinct aging processes, and sent them to Japan. There, Yahisa analyzed the samples and developed a one-of-a-kind bourbon inspired by Japanese whisky traditions, creating a release that reimagines American bourbon through a Japanese lens.
The Kentucky Owl Takumi Edition is a Kentucky Straight Bourbon whiskey with no age statement, aged exclusively in charred American white oak barrels. Bottled at 50% ABV without added coloring, this limited-edition release showcases the artistry of its makers.
