Glenmorangie Distillery was founded in 1843 in the town of Tain, in the Scottish Highlands. When writer Alfred Barnard visited in 1880, he described it as "the oldest and most primitive distillery I have ever seen," unfortunately finding it in a state of near ruin. Before it completely collapsed, John Matheson, son of William, managed to establish the Glenmorangie Distillery Company with the support of some external investors. The new company rebuilt the distillery, doubled production, and was able to meet domestic demand while occasionally exporting a few casks to destinations like Rome or San Francisco.
The Glenmorangie Triple Cask Reserve is a single malt Scotch whisky aged in three different cask types: ex-bourbon, newly charred oak, and ex-rye whiskey casks. This whisky has been bottled at a classic 40% ABV, retaining its natural color.
