Founded in 1824, Glenlivet was one of the first distilleries in Speyside to emerge from illegality. Its founder, George Smith, was a determined man and a true force of nature. Thanks to his hard work, Glenlivet quickly became the most famous and respected distillery of its time. Its reputation was so great that many competing distilleries began adding "Glenlivet" to their names. The issue became so widespread that John Gordon, George's son, had to fight a legal battle over the name. He ultimately won and secured the exclusive right to call his whisky The Glenlivet.
The Glenlivet 13 Years Old First Fill American Oak is a limited-edition single malt Scotch whisky aged for 13 years exclusively in first-fill ex-bourbon casks before being bottled at a classic 40% ABV.
