Glen Garioch (pronounced glen gee-ree) is the easternmost distillery in Scotland (located about a 30-minute drive from Aberdeen) and also one of the oldest in the country, established in 1797 through the conversion of a brewery. Currently, its production stands at 1,370,000 liters of spirit per year, primarily used for blends. Glen Garioch is, in fact, one of the key components of Vat 69 and Bell’s.
The Glen Garioch 12 Years Old was first released in 2010 and has been aged in a mix of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks before being bottled at 48%.
Fun fact: The distillery pairs its whisky with Italian Parmigiano Reggiano—definitely worth trying!
