In the United States, Elijah Craig—or more precisely, Reverend Elijah Craig—is known as the father of bourbon whiskey, and this Small Batch bourbon aims to pay a rich and flavorful tribute to the reverend. The Elijah Craig Small Batch is a bourbon whiskey with no official age statement, though it is known to be aged between 8 and 12 years. This bourbon is crafted in small batches, meaning that only a limited number of barrels (200) are selected for each release.
Reverend Craig was not only a Baptist preacher in Virginia but also an entrepreneur who sold distilled spirits. Legend has it that after a fire broke out in one of his warehouses, Reverend Craig salvaged and reused the charred barrels for whiskey maturation. He discovered that these charred barrels imparted an amber color to the whiskey, as well as remarkable aromas and flavors—thus giving birth to bourbon.
