According to Maya tradition, fire represented love, and the eagle goddess Chantico was its guardian. Every home that welcomed love kept a "Sahumerio," a sacred vessel for fire, which burned day and night in honor of deep feelings.
For the Maya, love and relationships held fundamental value. To attract love, they performed a simple yet fascinating ritual: in their Sahumerio, they burned sweets to receive the blessings of the goddess Chantico. Each sweet had a special meaning: dried flowers or floral honey symbolized romance, dried fruits represented family unity, incense stood for friendship, while cacao, seeds, and butters were dedicated to self-protection.
The Cihuatán Sahumerio is a rum made from sugarcane molasses and is a selection of light and heavy rums aged in ex-bourbon American oak barrels before being bottled at 45.2% ABV.
