The Caol Ila distillery, located on the island of Islay in Scotland, is one of the world’s most renowned producers of peated whisky. Founded in 1846 by Hector Henderson, it takes its name from the Sound of Islay (Caol Ila in Gaelic), which separates the island of Islay from Jura. Its location along Islay’s northeastern coast provides a spectacular view of the strait.
The Caol Ila 15 Years Old is a peated single malt Scotch whisky distilled in 2005. It was aged for 12 years in a single refill ex-bourbon barrel before maturing for an additional 3 years in an ex-Oloroso sherry cask. This whisky was finally bottled at its natural strength of 52.2% ABV, unchill-filtered, and with no added color, in a limited run of just 202 bottles.
