Theoretically, “Loch” in Scots means lake, but Scots are famously down-to-earth and not ones for strict labels. Thus, “Loch” can take on other meanings. In this case, Campbeltown Loch isn’t a lake but a sea inlet between Davaar Island and the bay where the town of Campbeltown is located. This “gulf” lends its name to a blended malt whisky produced by Springbank, which includes the five malts from the three local distilleries.
Campbeltown Loch is a blended malt Scotch whisky comprising single malts from Springbank, Longrow, Hazelburn, Kilkerran, and Glen Scotia, the only malts currently produced in Campbeltown. These whiskies are matured in both ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks before being blended and bottled. This whisky is non-chill filtered, with no added color, and bottled at 46% ABV.

Aroma: A light wisp of smoke greets the nose, bringing notes of brine-soaked olives, damp earth, and sage. A fruity layer follows with hints of peach, apricot, and honey.
Flavor: It starts oily, with notes of grilled fish, salt, and black pepper. A sweeter profile emerges, offering caramel, vanilla, raisins, and subtle hints of mineral peat.
Finale: Good length with spicy black pepper and ginger, followed by citrus, digestive biscuits, and toasted oak, with a faint wisp of smoke at the end.
