In the early 1970s, BenRiach broke Speyside conventions by returning to distilling batches of whisky in the 19th-century style, using malted barley smoked with Highland peat. This wood-rich peat gives BenRiach’s peated whiskies distinctly sweet and smoky notes.
The BenRiach Smoky Quarter Cask is a single malt Scotch whisky crafted from a combination of unpeated and peated single malts. Initially matured in bourbon barrels, it was then finished in small quarter casks before being bottled at 46% ABV.
