The Mull of Oa, from which this release takes its name, is located at the southernmost tip of Islay. It is usually the most sheltered and tranquil part of the island, and on clear days, the Irish coast can be seen from here. However, the area is not always so peaceful—while exploring, one might come across the American Monument, a towering structure built by the American Red Cross in memory of the nearly 700 military personnel and crew members of the SS Tuscania and HMS Otranto who perished in these waters toward the end of World War I.
The Ardbeg An Oa (pronounced "An Oh") is a heavily peated Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in a mix of three different cask types: American ex-bourbon, European ex-sherry, and charred virgin oak casks. These whiskies were married in the distillery’s new “Gathering Vat,” a large French oak vessel that allows the different single malts to blend and develop together before bottling. Ardbeg An Oa is a No Age Statement (NAS) whisky, bottled at 46.6% ABV without chill filtration.
